What is Expos?

Picture
Expository Speaking. Otherwise known as Expos is an event like no other. While other events have strict rules on what you can do, expos is where one can be free ! Expos is an event in which one chooses a topic than comes up with a unique to teach it to your audience! Expos is also the only event where one can freely choose visual aids to use! With expos it’s a new beast every single time.

Watch CHSSA's video on how to do Expos here! Rules and howtos are included. Don't mind the funky music.

Topics

Expos purely meant to educate a topic. When you choose a topic choose one that you are really fond of. It can be concrete or it can be conceptual.  Even the most bleak topics can be made exciting in expos. Some topic ideas are dreams, love, batteries, copper, sound. For example, i did my Expos on Pennies last year. To grab attention, you can  shock the judge by choosing a more exciting topic.

Here is a great Example of Expos, behold the 2005 state champion! (woot-woot!)

Le Rules

  • Thou shalt not have another person aiding you
  • Thou shalt not use live animals
  • Thou shalt not make an excessive mess
  • Thou shalt not speak in excess of 10 minutes. ( A 30 second grace period exists)
  • Thou shalt put more attention into the speech, rather than the visual aid

Visual Aid

You can bring anything except people, live animals, and/or hazardous materials for your visual aid!
  • generally one will have 6-10 posters for a powerpoint on paper, this will require an easel
  • focus more on your speech
  • make your poster exciting, put in lights, pull string, animation, etc..

Hey there! So we actually don't have an official Expos captain for the 2014-2015 year, so if you have any questions, comments, or concerns about Expos feel free to contact any officer (or any captain as well)
